Dear Graduates of Class 2020

It is my pleasure to congratulate you on your graduation from a Catholic High School. Your parents have sacrificed to provide you with this precious gift of education. It is usually a time of wonderful celebrations and gatherings with family and friends. I know for sure that you are waiting with great anticipation and excitement for the day to walk across the stage and receive your diploma.

As you are aware, the State of Utah and the Utah Department of Health have put in place measures to safeguard the population from the threat of the Coronavirus. For the health and well- being of our students and of the greater community, we will abide accordingly.

I met with all three High school principals to review their graduation and baccalaureate plans with consideration that these align with the current local guidelines of the State and our Church that require social distancing and protective measures, and gathering in large groups no more than 100 people. Here are the plans they set three weeks ago and will adjust depending on what the guidelines allow:

Plan A: Traditional in person graduation and baccalaureate ceremonies. Unfortunately, this is not possible under the present    situation.
Plan B: Ceremony for students to be present in some way with live streaming for family and drive-thru type Graduation.

Plan C: Graduation and Baccalaureate will take place virtually.

On Friday, all three schools will submit a final plan for my approval. Our three principals together with their staff have been working very hard to provide the very best graduation experience they can offer under these difficult circumstances, which you have earned and so richly deserve. However, no matter what kind of graduation you will have, I wish you all the best in your future endeavors.

May I reiterate my congratulations to you on your accomplishments and know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers as you graduate this year.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Most Rev. Oscar A. Solis, D.D.

Bishop of Salt Lake City
