Mr. Matthew Cobley began teaching at Judge Memorial during the 2018-2019 school year. Mr. Cobley teaches within the science department, specifically AP Biology, Biology, and Chemistry Honors. He’s also looking forward to helping out and getting more involved at Judge Memorial.
Mr. Cobley came to the U.S. for his work in paleontology. His research on dinosaur anatomy has been published in both BBC and the LA Times. When he can find time during the summer, Mr. Cobley likes helping with fossil excavation in and around Utah. Along with fossil excavation, Mr. Cobley has been teaching some of Utah’s natural history for the Natural History Museum of Utah to fourth grade students. He was even featured in a video this past summer, which you can watch it here.
One of the bets things about Mr. Cobley’s job is “each day there is something new – not just the students (or me) learning something, there is always something interesting happening in the classroom.” When you are in one of Mr. Cobley’s classes you can see he is patient with his students. This was something that he learned from a former high school teacher of his. According to Mr. Cobley, “I was not a very good student at high school, but his class was interactive and engaging, and he always showed patience with me regardless of the effort that I repaid him with. I try to emulate that with my own students.”Outside of work, Mr. Cobley likes spending his time riding and fixing motorcycles.
