Parent Letter

Dear Parents of JROC members,

Hello, and thank you for supporting your son or daughter's choice in joining Judge's Recreational Outdoor Club. The moderator for this year is Mr. Michael Cavanaugh. This letter will introduce you to the concept of JROC and hopefully answer some of your questions.

JROC is a club at Judge that promotes healthy and safe outdoor activity while giving students a chance to socialize with other students who have common interests with them. JROC gives students a chance to develop new friendships, learn safety in outdoor/recreational sports, fine-tune their skills, and have fun. JROC has a nominal membership fee of $10 (if paid for by check, make payable to JMCHS).

The JROC winter season are Wednesday Night Ski trips to Brighton Resort. Weather permitting, and that means that the bus can safely go up and back. Ssometimes the skiing weather is awesome, but bus driving is not. Unfortunately we have had to cancel late in the school day, because road conditions for the bus were not adequate. The general procedure should be followed on Wednesday's * Students bring their equipment to the storage room across from the Dean's office, so it may be safely locked up for the school day.
* After school, the students collect their gear, meet in the Caféteria, complete paper work and pay, then board the bus the bus, by 3:15pm and departs for Brighton Ski Resort. At about 4:00, the students arrive, receive their tickets, and may begin skiing or riding. * Students return to the bus before 8:00 pm, and return to Judge between 8:45 and 9:00pm. o A $5.00 late fee is assessed if students are late in the evening to the bus. No exceptions, it not fair to those who are on time.

Each Wednesday ski trip is $20 (this is a discounted Brighton rate of normally $30), unless the member has a Brighton season pass or a ski pass already purchased (in this case, the bus fee is $5). Members will be returned to school between 8:45-9:00. Also, if it is more convenient, your son or daughter may be dropped off at the bottom of Big Cottonwood Canyon at about 8:20-8:30. You must meet your child in person at the bottom of the canyon (near the UTA buss stop). This is the only stop that will be made between Brighton and Judge. Students are also on their own for food and beverages. It is suggested that students bring a snack dinner or purchase from the Brighton kitchen which is open all evening.

Be aware all Judge Memorial Catholic High School rules and regulations apply and that there are safety issues involved in these trips, and we enforce specific rules, for which JROC members are required to agree with. These include but are not limited to, skiing or boarding safely, in pairs or groups, proper conduct on the bus, and maintaining personal and group safety at all times. Your signed Parent Release Form is your consent to and acknowledgement of the rules and regulations.

Parents should be aware that due to the nature of the club activity, students are responsible for their own behavior. In the event of a medical emergency, your signed permission slip will be used to contact you by a Brighton medical professional. Additional action which may requre you picking up your child in person at Brighton. Judge Memorial Catholic High School assumes no financial obligation for medical attention.

Looking forward to a great year, pleae do not hesitate to contact me with any specific questions. Our season begins on Dec 13 & 20th, all dates are listed in the Judge Planner.

Sincerely,

Mr. Michael Cavanaugh 363-8895 ext. 163 (Faculty Moderator)
