Transportation and Parking

UTA UTA bus and TRAX passes are available to students at a discounted student rate. Students are strongly encouraged to take public transportation to school. Maps and schedules for UTA are available at www.rideuta.com. UTA passes are not transferable to any other person, and UTA reserves the right to confiscate and/or deactivate passes when misused. Students will receive disciplinary consequences for allowing another person to use the pass. The Judge student ID card must also be carried when using the UTA pass, as drivers may request proof that the student is a legitimate pass holder. Lost or stolen passes must be reported to the Deans' Office immediately so the pass can be deactivated. A replacement pass for the remainder of the time left on the card will be available for purchase by the student through the Spirit Shop.

Visitor Parking

Parents visiting the school may park in the 15-minute zone near the flagpole on 1100 East. For longer visits, they should park in any area marked, "No parking. Resident permits exempt," and check out a visitor permit from the Main Office to place on the car's dashboard for the duration of the stay at school. The city will ticket cars without permits as well cars parked in the bus zone, blocking hydrants or driveways, designated no parking zones, etc. The parking lots to the north and west of Judge Memorial, and shared by Our Lady of Lourdes, are reserved for teachers and staff until 3:30 P.M., and should not be used by parents or students before or during school hours.

Student Parking

Students who drive to school have three options for parking:

  1. Student Visitor Parking Permit (Designated location, $75)

  2. Capital Church Permit (Limited number of spots, $20)

  3. “Free Parking” (Between 700 and 800 South on 1000 East, and west of 1000 East on 600 and 700 South)

All student cars driven to school, whether or not they have parking permits, must be registered with the Deans’ Office. Application to register is available on the Judge Memorial Web site: www.judgememorial.com/parking2012

Student Parking Rules and Regulations

Judge Memorial Catholic High School is an urban campus located in a residential neighborhood. With all the positives this affords us, it also provides challenges when it comes to providing parking opportunities for students. In an effort to balance the parking needs of both our neighbors and our students, Judge Memorial works with the Douglas Neighborhood Association and the City of Salt Lake. We are granted permission to issue STUDENT VISITOR permits that allow a student to park in a specific location within the neighborhood. Though improbable, it is still possible that all students could lose the privilege to park in the neighborhood due to the actions of a single individual and, as a result, parking violations are dealt with accordingly. Drivers are to follow city parking and traffic ordinances at all times, and are subject to consequences from both the school and/or the city for failure to do so. Rules and Regulations include, but are not limited to:

Courteous Behaviors 1. Drive Safely and with due diligence. The areas around our campus are high volume areas of both traffic and pedestrians, including many small children. 2. If you must move a resident’s trash/recycling, do so in a respectful manner that still allows for pick-up and does not block access to their driveway. 3. Music, tone, and conversations should be appropriate in both volume and content. 4. Be aware of and avoid landscaping/lawns/plantings while walking around your vehicle and to school. 5. Park toward the ends of curbs to allow as much room as possible for other vehicles. 6. Individuals must park five feet away on either side of fire hydrants and driveways.

Neighborhood Parking Basics 1. Be respectful to the neighborhood, neighbors, city, school, and each other. 2. Please remember that students are visitors and guests of the neighborhood. 3. All students who drive to school must register their vehicle with the Deans’ Office. 4.After students register their vehicle, they will receive a Judge Registration Sticker. This sticker needs to be placed in the bottom left corner of the rear window. This applies to all students who park in “free parking,” on a Capital Church permit, or on a STUDENT VISITOR permit. 5.There are only three ways students are allowed to park in the neighborhood: at an assigned location in the neighborhood (STUDENT VISITOR permit required); in the Capital Church parking lot (Capital Church permit required); “Free Parking” areas, these are areas in the neighborhood where permits are not required.

Application Information 1. Students may be part of only one carpool. Any student on more than one application will be taken off all carpool applications. 2. A new application must be submitted each year. 3. All changes to your application (new car, license plate, etc.) must be reported to the Deans’ Office as they occur. 4. Applications will not be processed before a student turns 16.

The following are not eligible to obtain a STUDENT VISITOR or CAPITAL CHURCH permit:

  1. Anyone who is part of another permit/carpool.
  2. Siblings of a permit holder.
  3. Live within a mile of school.
  4. Driven by parents.
  5. Anyone who did not return his or her pass from the previous year.

Ranking All applications received prior to the deadline will be ranked as follows: Top priority is given to students who carpool, the larger the carpool the higher the rank. Ties will be broken based on the order in which the application was received.

  1. A carpool member is defined as a student who rides with the carpool 80% of the school year.
  2. A false or fake carpool will result in the revoking of pass and forfeiture of the parking fee.
  3. After the deadline, applications will be ranked on a first-come, first-served basis.

Student Visitor Permit 1. On every permit will be a location. That location is the ONLY place a student may park using their pass. 2. Unable to park in your assigned location? Take the following steps: Park in “Free Parking.” DO NOT park in a location not assigned to you; you may be ticketed. Notify the Deans’ Office. If a trend develops, we will work to find another location. 3. If you are parked on the pass in a location other than the one assigned, you will be ticketed. 4. STUDENT VISITOR permits need to be displayed on the dashboard in the front left corner. 5. The Rank/Location Sticker must be clearly visible from the outside of the vehicle. 6. Be sure that it is right side up (the Orange side should be visible from outside the vehicle) or the city may ticket you. All area permits are the same on the back, and parking officials may assume that you have a permit from another area. 7. Report lost or stolen permits to the Deans’ Office immediately. 8. If you forget your permit you will need to park in “Free Parking.” Only registered members of the carpool may use your permit. 9. If you have any confusion as to where you are supposed to park contact the Deans’ Office.

Important Information

Altering a Permit, using a false permit, copying a permit, or using a permit temporarily released to a visitor is not allowed and will result in the permit being revoked. Additionally, your name, license plate, and false permit may be turned into City authorities. After three parking violations of any kind by a student/carpool, a permit will be revoked. The parking lot to the west and south of the Judge Memorial buildings are reserved for teachers and staff until 3:30 p.m., and should not be used by parents or students before or during school hours. Parking is permitted behind the school in the faculty lots after 3:30 p.m. Students may not park in the reserved lots before or during school hours (including before school activities, early check-out for sports or activities, etc.). Parking is prohibited until AFTER 4 p.m. on the playground area of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School. Students are NOT allowed to park on a RESIDENT permit. RESIDENT permits are only for qualified area residents. Any student who lives within the Area 6 Parking Zone should contact the Deans’ Office. Students are NOT allowed to park on a GUEST permit. GUEST permits may not be used for commuter vehicle parking. Any student found parking with a RESIDENT or GUEST permit will have consequences from the school on the first offense. After that, any future violations will be referred to Salt Lake City.
