HOBY: Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership
Attention Sophomores: Members of the Class of 2013!
Registration for Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership program’s HOBY 2011 seminar season has begun! Be a part of the nation's premiere leadership organization by applying for a once in a lifetime experience as a HOBY Ambassador.
The Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership program (HOBY) is a dynamic, interactive, educational program designed to prepare our country's youth to become effective, ethical leaders in their home, school, workplace and community. All sophomores are eligible and encouraged to apply. Only one student from Judge Memorial will be selected to attend. Previous Judge representatives to the conference were Patrick Start '10, Matt Kirkegaard '11 and Lizzie Gibbs '12.
Judge Memorial is now accepting applications for the 2011 HOBY Leadership three day seminar to be held in early May at the Aspen Grove Resort, near Provo. Please see Ms. Morgan in the Counseling Center for an application and further details. Application must include a one-page essay describing the most rewarding and challenging aspect of being a leader in your school or community.
Your application and essay will be due Monday, November 15 to Ms. Morgan in the Counseling Center.
Each school is charged with selected a representative with demonstrated or potential leadership ability based on some of the following criteria:
* Outstanding oral and/or written communication skills
* Critical and/or creative thinking
* Creative problem solving
* Strong decision-making skills
* Sensitivity to the needs or concerns of others
* Charismatic personality (others gravitate towards him or her)
* Courage to speak out for one’s beliefs
* Courage to challenge authority
* Participation in community service activities
