Everyday at Judge, students and faculty come to school to work hard and to emphasize education. Oftentimes the education is so difficult that it takes up the majority of one's time, and it seems as though there is little time for doing anything else. However, some individuals have found time to participate in extracurricular activities, which really enrich our school community. One of these individuals is Mr. Dolan, who is the moderator for the Film Club this year.
"We are here to learn to better appreciate films," Mr. Dolan said. "We plan to meet once a month and watch interesting films, discuss them, and occasionally invite experts in to lecture about film."
The Film Club has been an activity at Judge on and off for a number of years, but when Mr. Porter left two years ago, the club ceased its activities. It will indeed be no easy task to rebuild the club. Mr. Dolan is aware of this, however he simply says, "I love film and I want to help students appreciate film better."
Because the club is so new, few people knew about it, and even fewer took the initiative to join. In fact, on the first day, so few people showed up that Mr. Dolan commented humorously, "I'm always glad to see a big turn out!"
However, although not many showed up, those who did are indeed individuals who are passionate about movies. They are those who take an interest in learning more about classical films, and how they are made. For those who are in the Film Club, Mr. Dolan says, "I hope they'll be more critical in their appreciation of film and they'll learn to analyze cinema technique."
At first the Film Club may seem somewhat difficult, yet the members will be in for a treat. Mr. Dolan has big plans for the club.
"We hope to sponsor a short-film festival, where Judge students make and show their short films," Mr. Dolan said. He also hopes to teach students by watching others try out their films. "We also plan to go to some Sundance Films," Mr. Dolan adds.
The Film Club will indeed be full of fun activities, and will surely enrich the extracurricular activities at Judge.

What club watches films the first Thursday of every month? If you guessed the film club you are right, the film club is a student oriented club where the students get to watch films and then talk about them in groups afterwards. If you think this sounds like fun read on to get more information about the club.
The moderator of this group is Mr.Dolan, a teacher here at Judge. He said that he likes to be in charge of this club because, "It is a very loosely organized club and it’s not a lot of pressure". The film club meets the first Thursday of every month in Mr. Dolan's room. "I want to move it into the auditorium," says Dolan, "so we can watch the movies on the big screen". The next meeting they will have will be the first Thursday of November and they will watch "The best ghost story ever!", it is called Innocence.
Another thing that the film club does is watch movies that the students at Judge make themselves. This is the annual Film Festival. "This is really exciting because the students made these films themselves and we all get to watch and critique them", says Dolan who is very proud of this part of the club. "Some of the films even go to New York to be judged!"
You might be asking what do you have to do to join this club. "All you have to do is show up and watch films." So if your not doing anything join the film club the first week in November and get ready to watch a scary movie.
