PresidentÕs Report:
Submitted today for the absent Ken Pollard. Jane indicated that we need vice
president nominations no later than the next JPA meeting. The candidate needs a
full year of experience before being the president.
PrincipalÕs Report:
- Today
we had an hour-long Academic Awards assembly for last yearÕs 9, 10 and 11th
grades. It was awesome to note in public the academic accomplishments.
- BTS
night is Wednesday, October 10 at 6:45 p.m. Please come! We meet in the
auditorium initially, you get your studentÕs schedule and then, in
15-minute increments, you go through your studentÕs schedule. ThereÕs a
ÒzeroÓ period at the end to accommodate the before- and after-school
classes.
- IÕve
been in every classroom twice since school started and without exception
saw meaningful teaching and learning going on. Teachers are very prepared
and ready to go. Homecoming is Friday; Blues & BBQ. Dance is Saturday
night in the cafeteria. All students in by 9 p.m. and they may not leave
until 10 p.m.
- The
Judge football team is #1 for the first time in 24 years. James Cordova is
the most awesome coach – he is so positive, and itÕs incredible to
watch him.
- Cross
Country – the boys are undefeated so far this season.
- Update
about the DeanÕs fines from our discussion last month: there are two times
when students may get a fine – parking, and chewing gum. The
gum-chewing fine is $5. All fines go toward a faculty party. If the
student canÕt afford to pay the fine, there are other options for paying
that due.
- Regarding
parents being able to access teachers in a timely manner: Teachers are
required to be on campus from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. For the most part,
you can find teachers here anywhere from 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 or 8:00 p.m.
You will be responded to within 24 hours and if not, please contact Rick.
- There
was a ÒbookÓ meeting recently. There was discussion regarding the textbooks,
book store and uniforms.
General Discussion regarding Concessions
- Greg
Thompson: I forsee something comingÉ the sports groups, with their
parents, are anxious to raise money for their activities with concessions.
We saw it with the tennis group the other night. There will be an effort,
especially with the minor sports, to find funding for their activity through
concessions. The concessions is a huge fundraiser for JPA and you are
going to be pushed very hard on those issues. It is going to become a very
popular venue, especially in the fall.
- The
hamburger sales at the tennis event wasnÕt a conflict because JPA was
serving hot dogs.
- Outside
of the $5 per student, concessions are the only way for JPA to raise
money. If we do go that way where the booster club is selling concessions,
maybe they could pay JPA a percentage of their sales.
- We
need something in place for concessions all sports.
- There
will be no other food sales by other groups when JPA has barbeques
(Homecoming and Bulldog Boogie).
Other Discussions:
Magazine drive started last week: first turn-in was $1500
over prediction. Online sales this week were over $800. Every Wednesday through
October 10 is a collection day.
Carpool information will be available at BTS night.
We have a St. PatrickÕs committee but no chair. Jane will be
contacting the two members and see if theyÕll co-chair. ItÕs really fun, very
informal.
Anyone that needs something put in the bulletin, please
email the info to Jane.
The Senior Party chairperson will have a fund of $770 to
begin with. It will be at the Sportsmall again in 2008.
Carla Morelli-Saurdiff needs more people to help with the
JPA barbeque on 10/5 (Bulldog Boogie). She asked if students may earn service
hours with handing out flyers for this BBQ. Joyce Pell suggested printing the
flyer on half-sheets and handing them out at the home games.
Carla presented the idea of doing a 50/50 raffle for a
ÒfanwrapÓ (outdoor blanket/poncho in a backpack). She would like to do a
$1/ticket raffle.
Tommy is the first three weekends of November. Many volunteers
are needed to put together the flowers. Karen Thompson usually does it on
Friday evenings, but there are big football games scheduled right before then,
so if necessary, assembly will change to Thursday evenings. ItÕs a good
friend-raising activity.
About twenty parents came to the Positive Coaching Alliance
activity on 9/9.
Concessions – all home games, including Freshmen.
Volunteers are always needed for Friday varsity homegames.
Meeting adjourned at 8:10 p.m.
Respectfully submitted by Gigi Thorsen, Secretary.
