PrincipalŐs Report given by Jane Hall:
á Sports update: GirlŐs basketball placed 2nd in State; BoyŐs basketball took 1st in State. GirlŐs swimming placed 2nd in State and BoyŐs swimming placed 4th in State. GirlŐs golf is underway. First year for a girls golf team
á Debate: Four JM students qualified to go to Appleton, WI, for the national tournament.
á The play was great and had lots of student support; tech was exceptional.
á Freshman registration went well. About 200 are registered as of today, which is really good for this time of year.
Jane HallŐs Report:
á Seven JPA volunteers came to help with Freshman registration the first night; five on the second night. Many thanks to those who came; it was quite helpful to the new families.
á February minutes were approved.
á We have $13,800 in the JPA bank account.
á It was moved to have Rick Bartman added as a second signator on the JPA bank account. Seconded and unanimously approved.
á Concessions: Jane suggested to the JPA board that football & basketball should have a separate chair for each. Robyn is willing to take on basketball, if Grace will take on football. (Grace was not in attendance.)
Volunteer Hours/Fees: parents are not taking this obligation seriously and not volunteering nor paying the fee for not volunteering. If we raise the cost, it will increase the incentive to do the work. This school year, 46 families paid the $25 up front, which fulfills their obligation to volunteer.
Jane proposes we increase both the hours and the fee. When asked about policing, it was mentioned that the committee heads will be able to track who worked.
Jane announced her retirement as of June 30, 2008. Her position will not be filled.
Jane has proposed a new committee to help absorb the managing volunteer information and communication: Volunteer Coordinator Committee, and provided a handout explaining this committeeŐs work.
Discussion followed, including that we need to add an option for Ňvolunteer caller.Ó
Jane suggested we get a committee of three people to hash out the proposal for those two separate things: Increasing the annual obligatory hours/fees and Volunteer Coordinator Committee.
Pam pointed out that each department sign on to the VC concept. If a dept., club or sport cannot fill volunteer positions, then they could contact the VC. The VC could provide help in getting volunteers to fill the holes where team parents arenŐt able to do the work.
Sam moved we present JaneŐs proposal to Mr. Bartman re: the VC, at the next meeting. Seconded and passed. (The VC will decide the hours and fee changes to be made.)
Security: At East High recently, a man with a gun entered the school, and then left. As of now, each person visiting JMCHS must stop by the main office, sign in, and get a sticker to wear, parents are included in this requirement.
Parent-to-Parent: March 18, 2008, featuring a UHP trooper to talk about teens and driving.
National Honor Society has an upcoming social, date TBD.
Student service hours are due March 14, 2008.
The parade is this Saturday; Lisa Marks shopped purchased 50 hats and Matt Finnigan designed and ordered special St. PatrickŐs shirts to sell.
Robyn and Gigi agreed to keep their JPA board positions for the 2008/2009 school year. We need a VP for next year, and will vote on that next month.
We will also discuss 72-hour kits at next monthŐs meeting.
Meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
Respectfully submitted by Gigi Thorsen, Secretary.
Minutes approved with the addition: Ken Wheatley brought up the question about if there is any policy regarding how funds are tracked, disbursed, etc., mostly regarding sports.
