Minutes for January 14, 2008
Judge Parent Association meeting
Attendance: Vicenca Rechsteiner, Justin Losee, Kari Jones, Nancy May, Gregory Thompson, Karen Thompson, John Kiechle, Pam Sewell, Sharon Marron, Anne Madrigal, Stella Lenzen, Robyn Valdez, Kathy Horton, Kathy Frappier, Rick Bartman, Ken Pollard, Jane Hall
Pam Sewell, Vice President, (acting in the Ken Pollards absence) opened the meeting at 7:05 pm with the Judge prayer, followed with introductions of those attending.
PrincipalÕs Report: Mr. Bartman reminded parents that first semester finals start Tuesday and end on Thursday, followed by a teacher work day (no classes) and Monday the 21st is also a school holiday.
January 31st at 9:40 am the movie I HAVE NEVER FORGOTTEN YOU: the Life and Legacy of Simon Wiesenthal will be shown in the Judge auditorium followed by a question and answer session with Rabbi Aron Hier of the Simon Wiesenthal Center Los Angeles, California. All parents are invited to attend.
The crumbling stadium wall is being evaluated by an independent engineer, lawyers, and insurance company for direction in how to proceed with repairs. Hogan Construction assures us that the field is structurally stable, but Mr. Bartman has restricted use of the field until repair is completed. He commented that January was a good time for repairs to be happening, before the spring sports begin.
Secretary: Minutes of the November meeting were not presented due to absence of the secretary. Minutes will be emailed to board members and posted online.
TreasurerÕs Report: The JPA has a $7900 balance with no outstanding expenses. We are lower than last year at the same time and there was concern about having funds for the Bulldog Bucks mini-grant program. The amount funded varies from year to year. Basketball concessions income seems lower than expected. There was discussion about raising the price on some items such as sports drinks and adding nachos. The board decided to wait until next year for price increases and trying serving nachos for a few games. It is expected that the crowds will be larger now that they are in region competition which will improve the concession receipts.
Advancement report: Reminded board about the Parent Phonathon January 28-29, 2008. Parent volunteers are needed to call other parents. It is only a small group of volunteers needed for that night to work out in the Advancement Office making calls. Contact Jane Hall at 517-2130 to volunteer.
Committee Reports:
Anne Madrigal reported that the caterer we usually use for parent teacher conference dinner has retired and she is searching for a reasonable priced replacement without much luck. Some suggestions were made and Jane Hall will search the parent list for caterers. We like to give parents our business if possible.
Karen Thompson reported that flower sales at the musical performance were very good. She had plenty of parent volunteers to assemble and sell flowers. Main Stage play is the next production, but has a very small cast so she will be scaling down the flower purchases appropriately. But, dance concert always sells a large amount of flowers and is usually profitable to the JPA.
Vicenca Rechsteiner is researching a presenter for the parent to parent presentation in March. The committee has chosen safe teen driving as a subject for this time and some suggestions were made as to where we could find a presenter that would be knowledgeable and entertaining at the same time. Contacts will be made and information coordinated with John Kiechle who will prepare advertising materials to promote the event in the Bulldog Bulletin which goes out the end of February.
St. PatrickÕs Day Parade was discussed. There are three parents who indicated interest in working on the parade. They will be contacted by Ken Pollard. Jane will provide information about the theme for the parade when it is available. There are many existing supplies to decorate a trailer with. Arranging for use of a trailer and vehicle are a first priority.
The senior parents attending requested a reminder be sent out about the Senior Party organizational meeting this week. Jane will send out the reminder and attend the first meeting to get the parents oriented on how to begin.
Meeting adjourned at 7:55 pm.
