Judge Parent Association
Board Meeting Minutes
November 12, 2007
Call to Order and opening prayer by Jane Hall.
Parent-Teacher Conferences Update:
Ann Madrigal has coordinated the dinner for teachers catered by Classic Catering, $7 pp, for Wednesday, November 14 at 4:00.
Open House Update:
Ann had 14 dozen cookies left over from Open House.
Next year can we plan to have parents from different-aged students to answer questions, especially sophomores in addition to freshmen, and representing public schools as well as private/parochial. This year we had student ambassadors.
Angie suggested spreading around away from the cafeteria, like cookies in the auditorium foyer. Kathy Horton said she answered questions in the hallways but wasnÕt identified as such; once she did identify herself she was bombarded with questions.
Maybe we could reorder JPA shirts to wear, or badges. Suggestion was made to have a few different stations around the school.
Concessions Update:
Grace thanked all the volunteers who helped with football concessions.
We need basketball concessions – the gentleman who was doing might longer be doing it. The football concession ladies will do basketball; there is enough soda, popcorn, and candy. TheyÕll serve hotdogs and pizza as well.
There was no 9th grade concession during the season; only tournament(s). Suggestion for coordinator to be at parent team meetings and recruit volunteers on the spot, then email or call with a reminder two weeks ahead of their scheduled shift. Suggestion was made to split half and half, or have other gradeÕs parents do concessions and vice versa.
Running concessions involves buying the food, etc., keeping all items in stock, and filing with our treasurer for reimbursement.
JPA has a party Monday, December 3. Invitations were sent by mail. Call or email Jane to RSVP.
Advancement Update:
Jane Hall reported on Magazine Drive – Linda SimpsonÕs CP won and the class will take limousines to The Pie for lunch. The Magazine Drive took in about $52,000, of which we get 40%.
Auction took in about $190,000, which is about $20,000 more than 2006. Pam Sewell made the JPA basket, and Jane said it was the one that got the most response and everyone loved it.
Kari Jones will do the data entry for the magazine drive student 40% distribution.
Musical Theatre Update:
Tommy – the Friday performance has been moved to Saturday at 2 p.m. (in addition to the 7 p.m. performance). The Saturday matinee will be $2 per ticket instead of the $4 regular price.
Karen reported about the flowers; weÕve sold enough to pay for all that we need for the talent and staff. Ken encouraged everyone to go to the play; itÕs very well done. Apparently the crowds havenÕt been as large as theyÕd like, but those that have come are enthusiastic.
Ken Poulsen, JPA President:
We need to start talking about a topic for the next Parent-to-Parent, scheduled for March 18, 2008. Topic suggestion: how to help our children drive defensively, etc., rules, whatÕs reasonable, etc. Also, it was suggested to feature the ŌMillennium generationĶ and how to deal with them (born 1980-1995).
Mentoring calls are currently occurring.
Parent Teacher conference: go to the cafeteria and pick up your childÕs schedule. You will also get a map of where each teacher is sitting. Then you go and get in line by the teacher you want to talk to. Arrive whenever it works for you vs. following the alphabetical guidelines.
Acoustical shell – Ken reported we have given Ramona Mayer $1500 to help with the purchase, based on a vote by JPA. Last year we gave her $2000 and this was an additional request that was carried into this yearÕs budget.
Meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
