Judge to compete in the 2012 English Quest

For the seventh year in a row, Judge Memorial Catholic High School will send a team to Utah English Quest. The 2012 event will be held Friday, February 24 at Weber State University.

Each student will compete in three of the nearly two dozen events. The events cover a wide spectrum and include Personal Narrative, Photo Essay, Book Cover, Persuasive Writing, Poetry Recitation, Poetry Slam, Literature Test, Vocabulary Test, Shakespeare Monologue, Poster, Editing Test, Character Sketch Writing, Storytelling, Informative Speaking, Movie Trailer and Editing Test.

Please cheer on the following Bulldog Quest Team members, representing all four grade levels at Judge: Isabel Bartholomew, Liz Barrows, Rachel Benvegnu, Alex Clark, Cassandra Cokl, Laura Delaney, Madi Gallo, Anne Henkels, Michael Houck, Ellis Juhlin, Emma Krump, Wilson Lamb, Victoria Landa-Steinau, Sarah Longe, Nicklaus Markham, Connor McCoy, Emily Murnin, Sarah Anne Nakamura, Kendra Novak, Jasiek Ottowicz, Emerson Pratt, Alissa Shear, Olivia Start, Emily Strand and Clay Westing.

In 2011, over a dozen individual Judge Memorial students received awards in areas such as Character Sketch Writing, Informative Speaking, Literature Test, Editing Test, Personal Narrative, Persuasive Writing, Photo Essay-Digital, Photo Essay-Traditional, Poetry Recitation, Poetry Slam, Poetry Writing and Vocabulary Test. Earning multiple awards were then-frosh Isabel Bartholomew, and then-seniors Nafisa Masud and Mary Zost. First place honorees were Emily Andrews, Isabel Bartholomew, Michael I. Greenberg, Nafisa Masud, Alexandra Menzdorf and Mary Zost.

In 2010, twelve different Judge Memorial students received awards in areas such as Book Cover Design, Editing, Informative Speaking, Literature Test, Poetry Recitation or Writing, Personal Narrative Writing, Poster Story-Telling, Shakespeare Monologue and Vocabulary Test. First place honorees were Emily Andrews (book cover design), Craig Domeier (informative speaking), Laura Lighty (poetry recitation), Allie Menzdorf (story telling) and Mary Morgan (poetry writing).

In 2009, Judge students continued the tradition of winning major awards. Bulldog students won prizes in Book Cover, Character Sketch Writing, Editing, Literature Test, Movie Trailer, Personal Narrative Writing, Photo Essay, Poetry Slam, Reader’s Theatre and Vocabulary Test.

In 2008, fourteen schools competed in the nineteen categories. Judge students won prizes in Poetry Slam, Poetry Writing, Poetry Recitation, Book Cover, Informative Speaking, Reader's Theater and Persuasive Essay.

Sponsored by the Utah Council of Teachers of English/Language Arts, this is the only statewide festival which encourages and rewards Utah students' excellence in reading, writing, speaking, presenting, filming, drawing, and acting. The contests showcase students' expression and expertise in their use of language and communication.

This language arts festival is designed to celebrate and promote all areas of literacy.
