In collegiate football, Cort Dennison ’07 concluded his outstanding play for the University of Washington on the wrong side of the highest scoring game in bowl history as the Huskies fell to Heisman Award winner Robert Griffin III and Baylor 67-56. Cort had a game high 15 tackles in his final game in college. Sean Sellwood ’08 was solid as a rock for the University of Utah in the 30-27 overtime win versus Georgia Tech. Sean had a 48.5 average on his punts and kept the Yellow Jackets pinned deep in their own territory several times.
In collegiate men’s basketball, Jaxon Myaer ‘07 is the steady hand for University of Montata Billings, averaging 13.6 ppg and four assists per game. The team is 7-5. His brother Zach Myaer ’10 is averaging 3.2 ppg for 11-2 Snow College. Noel Hollingsworth ’08 continues to dominate the paint for MIT with 19 ppg for the 12-0 club. Oliver Hughes ‘09 has played in every game for Willamette (OR) and is getting 1.8 ppg. Dee Crandall ‘09 is at 3.1 pg for the Veltri brothers (Brandon '97 and Brock '97) at Carroll College (Mt.) The Fighting Saints will be in town on Thursday, January 12 to play Westminster College.
Stallon Saldivar, currently a junior men’s basketball player for the Lumberjacks of Northern Arizona University, had a pretty amazing December. Stallon was named the Big Sky Player of the Week for his game-winning performance against Arizona State. He also was named National Mid-Major Men's Basketball Player of the Week by College Sports Madness. The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts announced in late December the candidates for the 2012 Bob Cousy Collegiate Point Guard of the Year Award with Stallon named to the list. The annual honor, named for Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtic Bob Cousy, recognizes the top point guards in college basketball, regardless of classification. Stallon is hitting for 8.5 ppg and 4 apg for 5-9 Northern Arizona.
In collegiate women’s basketball Erica Martinez ‘10 is averaging 16.0 and 3 rpg for 6-5 Snow College while Tina Fakahafua ‘09 is one of the top players for 9-6 College of Idaho with 8.5 ppg and a team leading 7.1 rpg.
Collegiate swimming starts up again this week and we will have updates on those alumni in next week's roundup.
