Information and Details about the Tests and Courses

SCIENCE: Students are selected for Honors Chemistry based on their qualifying exam score (March 19 or March 20), their score on the placement exam, their eighth grade transcript and teacher recommendation. Consider taking the qualifying exam if you score in the 80th local percentile or above on the reading, math, and science sections of the placement exam, and have good grades and good study habits from elementary/middle school. This qualifying exam takes 30 minutes and requires a calculator (not a cell phone). Please direct all questions to Dr. Stephanie Atherton at satherton@judgememorial.com.

MATH: Algebra II is the most challenging math course for frosh students. Consider taking the Algebra II qualifying exam if you have completed an Algebra I class with excellent grades but lack a Geometry class. Students who pass the exam may enroll in Geometry and Algebra II concurrently. The Geometry course may be taken in the summer of 2012. This qualifying exam consists of 75 problems and lasts 60 minutes. This exam may be taken again on Monday, May 14 at 4 p.m. or at the end of the summer school Accelerated Algebra course on July 2 at 9 a.m. Please direct all questions to Mr. Pat Clark at pclark@judgememorial.com.

FRENCH, GERMAN, LATIN, SPANISH :
Placement into German, Latin, Spanish II Honors and French I Honors are designed for students who have had previous experience with these languages or are highly motivated to learn the language at a faster pace than the regular courses. Consider taking the exam if you know enough of the language to ask and answer simple questions; write and recite numbers and the alphabet; talk simply about the time, date, or weather; tell and write basic information about yourself, and conjugate some verbs in the present tense. The exam lasts 30-45 minutes.

  • Please direct your questions regarding French to Ms. Thomas at gthomas@judgememorial.com.
  • Please direct your questions regarding German to Mr. Holder at aholder@judgememorial.com.
  • Please direct your questions regarding Latin to Mr. Soran at tsoran@judgememorial.com.
  • Please direct your questions regarding Spanish to Mrs. Shepherd at ashepherd@judgememorial.com.
