Lamb, Neville receive 2010 Christ the King Awards

  • Presented at Baccalaureate, The Cathedral of the Madeleine, May 27, 2010
  • Maximilian W. Lamb, son of Jeanette Sawaya, Salt Lake City; and Bill Lamb, Salt Lake City
  • Roselyn C. Neville, daughter of John and Margaret Neville of Salt Lake City

The Christ the King Awards are the highest awards the school bestows during our graduation season. The recipients are young adults who bring to life the philosophy of the school in their academic and extra-curricular involvement, in their moral actions and attitudes at school, in their parishes, and in their local communities. Seniors are nominated as being those two graduates who best represent the ideals of Judge Memorial Catholic High School. This award reads: “in recognition of outstanding dedication and zeal to the service of God and School.”

The two seniors selected have contributed to the life of our school in countless ways. Both are honor graduates. Both have incredible resumes of academic, activity and athletic success. Both have enviable records of volunteer service. Both possess the deep convictions and quiet strength of true leaders. Both are as one teacher put it, “simply the best of Judge.”

The young lady we recognize has excelled at Judge in the classroom, evidenced by her graduation with honors, and her acceptance into a program designed for future stars in math and science. She shines in the co-curriculars in music, writing, and sports. She is a role model to others of what being a teammate and what practicing sportsmanship really means. Even when injured, she dressed for every game, rode every bus, and stood for every time-out. On a cold night in February, to those of us lucky enough to be in our gym on senior night, she gave us a moment filled with emotion and pride, a moment we will never, ever forget.

The young man we honor is a prime example of Judge’s reputation for well-rounded, high-achieving students. He is a runner, a writer, a dancer, a region champion, a state runner-up. He is a vice-president for national honor society, an academic all-state honoree, a German-speaking math whiz … a valedictorian. He is described by one faculty member as a “fabulous student, who is intellectually inquisitive.” He is personable, insightful, compassionate, and pretty clever.

Both of these honorees have a moral compass and a sense of self that has served them well through their adolescence - and that we pray will guide their words and actions as they move on to their respective colleges - the University of Utah and the University of Pennsylvania.

On behalf of the faculty and staff of Judge Memorial Catholic High School, we are pleased announce the 2009-2010 recipients of the Christ the King Award as Roselyn Neville and Maximilian Lamb.
