Attention Sophomores - Apply Now for the 2009 Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Conference

Registration for Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership program’s (HOBY) 2009 seminar season has begun! Be a part of the nation's premiere leadership organizations by applying for a once in a lifetime experience as a HOBY Ambassador.

The Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership program (HOBY) is a dynamic, interactive, educational program designed to prepare our country's youth to become effective, ethical leaders in their home, school, workplace and community. All sophomores are eligible and encouraged to apply. Only one student from Judge Memorial will be selected to attend. Previous Judge representatives to the conference were Nicke Worth '09 and Patrick Start '10.

Judge Memorial is now accepting applications for the 2009 HOBY Leadership three day seminar to be held in early May at the Aspen Grove Resort. Please see Ms. Morgan in the Counseling Office for an application and further details. Application must include a one-page essay describing the most rewarding and challenging aspect of being a leader in your school or community. Your application and essay will be due to Ms. Morgan on Wednesday, December 3.

Each school is charged with selected a representative with demonstrated or potential leadership ability based on some of the following criteria:

  • Outstanding oral and/or written communication skills
  • Critical and/or creative thinking
  • Creative problem solving
  • Strong decision-making skills
  • Sensitivity to the needs or concerns of others
  • Charismatic personality (others gravitate towards him or her)
  • Courage to speak out for one’s beliefs
  • Courage to challenge authority
  • Participation in community service activities
