Swim Team Ready for 2012 States!

Judge Memorial Catholic High School boys and girls swim teams, lead by coach Matt Finnigan, are set to complete in the UHSAA Class 3A State Championships at BYU on Friday, February 3 and Saturday, February 4.

Our Bulldogs are coming off a strong Region finish, with the girls' team claiming the Region 10 championship and the boys’ squad coming in third place.

On Friday, February 3, timed finals for events one through four will begin at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, February 4, swimming finals for events six through 12 will begin at 5 p.m.

This is by far the most exciting, adrenaline-filled, swimming-related meet in the State, so feel free to come to Provo to the Richards P.E. Building on the BYU campus and support our hard-working student-athletes. Go Bulldogs!

The Synopsis

The 3A Boys is wide open. The Bulldogs might be small in numbers, but big on heart, and the ability to move up in every event. Seamus Appel '12 leads the way, seeded third in both the 200 free and 500 free. Seamus is the defending state champ in the 200 free. Additionally, Jason Motley '13 and twin powers Dillon Beckett’12 and Parker Beckett ’12 should provide the fair amount of depth the boys will need to contend with the top teams, Park City, Desert Hills and defending 3A champ Wasatch. New 3A addition Tooele should also be in the mix.

On the girls side, defending state champ Judge Memorial will have its hands full with Desert Hills and Park City. Desert Hills holds the top seed in four out of the eight individual events, and is seeded ahead of Judge in two of the three relays. With just enough depth in their arsenal this year, the Thunder should battle the Bulldogs to the very end. Judge is led by Amelia Wolfgramm '14, who is seeded first in both the 100 free and 100 backstroke. She'll have help from Kaley Banyai '13 and two rookies, Alandra McDowell ‘15 and Allison Witte ‘15. The senior class must have their best meet of the season if Judge is to have any chance at repeating as a state champ.
