Boys Swimming

Boys' Swimming contact:
Matt Finnigan, Head coach

This year's young squad is lead by speedy Will Bowers ('09), and a pair of talented juniors, Oliver Diamond and Willis Schafer.

The only void missing from last year's successful 4th place finish at the State Championships was the numbers, as the Bulldogs fielded a mere 11 swimmers in the meet, smallest among the Top 5 finishers.

The "Tribe" is hoping for an infusion of young, talented athletes under the tutelage of Head Coach Matt Finnigan (5th season at Judge) to help capture its fourth state title in seven years.

High school individual swimming rankings

These rankings were created by using NISCA power points, which assign higher values to quality swims in each individual event. They include altitude adjustments, which award more points to distance swimmers because of the difficulty of swimming for extended periods at high altitude. Also, the highest two point-gaining events for each swimmer were used, though they might not necessarily swim those at state.

Listed here are the Class 3A rankings (boys).Read more »

OK, so after spending the better part of a week pouring over data, the first edition of my team swim rankings are finally out.

Judge Aquamen Are Turning It Around

From The Salt Lake Herald-Beacon

By Larry J. Kozlowski III

HYRUM, UT—Don't look now, but here come the Judge Memorial Bulldogs. Though it might seem like eons ago to the legions of rabid Tribe fans thirsty to celebrate another swim title, really, it was only just February of 2005 when Judge Memorial last hoisted the State Championship trophy in triumph. Back then, they had just finished closing out on winning a third straight title.

Then the program said goodbye to nine graduating seniors and had few replacements in their stead.Read more »

Tribe Looking Speedy

From the Salt Lake Herald-Beacon

By Larry J. Kozlowski III

SALT LAKE CITY—While the girls team was pummeling their opponents, the boys squad of One Tribesman were locked in a battle with their two formidable counterparts, 4A squads Highland and Woods Cross. However, unlike the past few seasons, when Judge Memorial could barely field enough swimmers to fill out every event, this year's squad has ample numbers of athletes in what appears to be a team on the rise.

In fact, there were two events last night--the 200 I.M.Read more »

Tribe takes 4th at Viewmont Open

From The Salt Lake Herald-Beacon

By Larry J. Kozlowski III

BOUNTIFUL—Though it's been four seasons since The Tribe last won a state championship, and the team still appears a little too young and perhaps one or two swimmers away from re-claiming their fourth title in the last 7 years, don't tell co-team captain Will Bowers the Bulldogs don't have a shot at taking first on the podium next February.

According to Bowers, this team--with its wealth of youth and emerging racers--believes it does have a shot at shocking the prep swimming community in Utah.Read more »
