**Weekend Tournament Tests Bulldogs**

Friday, April 4, 2008 Big Cottonwood Complex

Game One -Judge vs. Bingham This eighth inning tiebreaker was one of Judge's best games of the year. Still, a zero to zero game in the bottom of the fifth inning, Madi Moll (22) pitched out of a bases loaded jam by striking out the last batter. In the sixth inning, a double play ended Bingham's inning as second baseman Lindsay Larsen (1) caught a line drive for one out and tagged the base runner heading for second. Still no score after the sixth inning and the time had expired for the game.

The seventh inning began using the International Tie Breaker Rule: each team starts their bats with no outs and a runner at 2nd base (The runner is the last batter from the previous inning).

Judge did not score at the top of the seventh inning. Bingham started at the bottom of the seventh with a runner on second base who advanced to third base on a bunt single. With no outs, things looked bleak for Judge. However, the Lady Bulldogs defense toughened and saved the inning. Stephanie Avila (13) fielded a deep fly for the first out.Madi Moll (22) grabbed a liner and doubled the runner on third base for the final out. This save left the Judge fans standing and cheering as the game went into an eighth inning.

In the eighth inning, Judged score the first run of the game. Lindsay Larsen (1) was on second base. Madi Moll's (22) bunt advanced Madi to first base moving Lindsay to third. Then Madi stole second. Ali Brann came up and place a deep fly ball to left field that had Lindsay tagging and heading for home this gave Judge the lead. Judge 1- Bingham 0

In the bottom of the eighth, with a runner on second for Bingham, Teresa Pond (11) threw the first batter out. Madi Moll (22) struck out the second batter. However, Bingham tied the score on an over throw and won the game on a two base hit to left center.

Bingham 2 – Judge 1

Game Two-Judge vs. Skyline

Judge retired Skyline to the sideline in the first inning with a nice catch by left fielder Rachel Coffey (9) and a double play by second baseman Chase McQuarrie (23) who fielded a grounder and tagged the runner going to second base and then threw out the batter at first base.

In Judge's half of the first inning, the Bulldogs loaded the bases on a base hit by Teresa Pond (11) and two walks from Madi Moll (22) and Ashley Azarow (5). Teresa scored on an overthrow and Judge took an early lead. Judge 1 – Skyline 0

Judge's third inning started with a base hit by Kasi Stults (2). Then Kasi took it to third on a passed ball and scored on a hit by Teresa Pond (11). Chase McQuarrie (23) moved Teresa to third on an infield hit. Teresa later scored Judge's third run on an overthrow.

In the top of the fourth inning, in spite of some crisp Skyline hitting, Madi Moll (22) and Judge's fielding held Skyline to just one run. Judge 3- Skyline 1 Ashley Azarow (5) started at the bottom of the fourth with a double to left field. Allie Brann (12) walked. A passed ball moved the runners to second and third. Michelle McKenzie (6) walked to load the bases. Another passed ball advanced the runners as Ashley scored. With Jacqui Rodriguez (33) at the plate, time expired. Since Judge had "last bats" the game was called Judge 4 –Skyline 1.

A very chilly morning at the Big Cottonwood Complex

Game Three – Judge vs. Alta

Teresa Pond (11) started the first inning with a walk and took second on a passed ball. Madi Moll (22) blooped a double to right field sending Teresa to third base, but Alta ended the inning with no runs scored. In the bottom of the first, Alta scored one run as Madi pitched out of a based loaded jam by striking out the last batter. Alta 1- Judge 0

Rachel Coffey (9) led off the second inning with a base hit up the middle and took third on a double byKasi Stults (2). The inning ended as Michaela Valdez (4) was out on a close call at first base.

In the bottom half of the second inning some excellent fielding by short stop Teresa Pond (11), centerfielder Michaela Valdez (4), and first baseman Jacqui Rodriguez (33) gave Madi Moll (22) a three up and three down inning.

In the top of the third inning, Annie Cheung (3) walked, but no runs were scored. In the bottom of the third Alta went three up and three down again.

In the fourth, Madi Moll (22) tripled to the right center, but was stranded. In the bottom half or the fourth, Alta hauled a base hit, but no run was scored.

In the top of the fifth inning,** Michelle McKenzie (6)** was left on first base after a two out walk as the game settled into a pitchers' duel. Ashley Azarow (5) threw out a base runner at second as Teresa Pond (11) made the tag in the bottom of the fifth. Madi Moll (22) retired the second batter by coming off the mound to throw out the batter at first. The third out was a fly ball to Kasi Stults (2) in left field.

In the top of the sixth, Judge went three up and three down. In the bottom, Madi Moll (22) threw out the first batter and Michaela Valdez (4) retired the second batter on a liner to center. Madi struck out the last batter for the third out.

Judge hustled on the field hoping for "last bats," but the umpire called the game because there was no time left.

**Alta 1- Judge 0 **

Game Four – Cypress vs. Judge Saturday afternoon Judge played their fifth game in three days with Madi aka "Madd Dogg" Moll (22) still pitching. In the top of the first, Moll (22) struck out the first two batters. She'll end up recording eight strikeouts in this five-inning game. A pop fly to Chase McQuarrie (23) on second ended the inning. Teresa Pond (11) starts the bottom of the first with a slap hit to third base. Madi Moll (22) walked to first and later steals second. It is Ashley Azarow's (5) **hit through the short stop that drives **Teresa Pond (11) home. A run down trying to get Ashley at first led to Madi scoring the second Judge run.Judge 2-Cypress 0

In the top of the second, the first Cypress batter walked. However, Ashley Azarow (5) easily threw out the "pinch runner" who had been sent in to steal bases. Teresa Pond (11) made the tag. Madi Moll (22) struck out the next two batters, four-strike outs in two innings. Michelle McKenzie (6) started Judge's second inning with a liner hard to third. Then Allie Bran (12) sent a base hit to center field. Annie Cheung (3) **was hit by a pitched ball. Judge scored no runs this inning. **Madi Moll (22) **pitched her fifth strike out in the third inning. No runs scored for Cypress. In the third inning, **Michaela Valdez (4) had a base hit. Jacque Rodriquez (33)got Michaela to second with a bunt, but the inning ended with Judge scoreless.

Cypress' first batter was thrown out by a Madi Moll (22) throw to Jacqui Rodriquez (33) at the start of the fourth inning. The next two batters got on with a hit to center and a bloop hit to left field. Madi struck out the next batter, but the runners stole second and third. Moll ended the inning with her seventh strike out. Teresa Pond (11) opened Judge's half of this inning with a base hit to left field and took second base on an errant throw. Madi Moll's (22) base hit to right field drove Teresa Pond (11) home. Ashley Asarow (5) got on first with an error by the third baseman. Rachel Coffey (9) was hit by a pitch to load the bases, but the inning ended there Judge leading.

Judge 3-Cypress 0

Jackie Rodriquez (33) got the first Cypress batter out with an assisted grounder to first in the fifth inning. The catcher Ashley Azarow (5) threw out the next batter on an unintended bunt in front of home plate as** Chase McQuarrie (10)** covered first. The next batter made it to first base on a dropped third strike that was followed by a walk. Madi Moll (22) got the final batter on a bounce to the mound as Chase McQuarrie (10) covered first. Judge's "last bats" had Allie Bran (12) hit a flyer to the left field. Annie Cheung (3) bunted and reached second on an overthrow. Chase McQuarrie (10) lined too short. **Ericka Eisenman (8) was at the plate when time expired.

Judge 3-Cypress 0

NOTE: Thank you to Katie Cheung who brought fresh, hot, bagels and cream cheese for the team on Saturday. A big, thank you to all our Lady Bulldog boosters who braved wind and cold to watch our girls play some very entertaining and sometimes exhilarating ball.

Thanks also to Pat Eisenman and Samantha Stults who took on the scoring at the last minute for the last game on Saturday. You two are real parent volunteers. Thanks so much for helping the team and the coaching staff.

**Cougars And Bulldogs Scratch It Out In Kearns**

Thursday, April 3, 2005 Varsity

The Lady Bulldogs have first bats facing the wind; their batting time was quick. Madi Moll (22) pitched this game and it took a run before the Bulldogs settled down in the second half of the first inning. Catcher Ashley Azarow (5) **ended the first inning with catching a fly ball. **Kearns 1- Judge 0

In the second inning, two of our Bulldogs were overcome by the mighty Cougars' pitcher's paw. Michelle McKenzie (6) came to bat and got on first base. Then** Rachel Coffey (9)** had a drive down the middle, but Michelle was tagged out in a try for third base. The Cougars were held at their single run in the bottom of the second inning thanks to some great fielding done by Michaela Valdez (4) and Chase McQuarrie (23).

Teresa Pond (11) made it to first base in the top of the third. "Mikie" Michaela Valdez (4) got on first advancing Teresa to second. While** Madi Moll (22) was at bat, Teresa** stole third. Madi hit the ball, ran to second. Teresa **ran in for the run. **Madi was forced out. ** Judge 1- Kearns 1**

Madi Moll (22) continued to keep the Cougars off the bases, but a misjudgment in wind velocity placed runners on first and second. The next hitter brought in a run, and the Cougars demonstrated their hitting strength and running speed. Kearns 6- Judge 1

It is the fourth inning, Allie Brann (12) gets on first Madi Moll's (22) bat comes alive and Allie comes home, ** but **Madi **is tagged out. In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Cougars are ready to pounce again on the Bulldogs, but **Madi Moll (22) **not only pitches, but also catches the ball for the first out. Then Jacqui Rodriguez (33) catches the next hit throws to **Mariah Liechty (23) who tags the runner for the second out. ** Jacqui Rodriguez (33)** catches the next hit and the Lady Bulldogs fight back to hold the Cougars.

The Lady Bulldogs get out another run in the fifth inning. It was Madi Moll's (22) hit that brought Michaela Valdez (4) home. ** Kearns 5- Judge 3**

Catcher Ashley Azarow (5) throws to Teresa Pond ( 11) for the first out in the fifth inning. The Cougars respond by placing runners on second and third. Madi Moll (22) lets loose and pitches out the next two batters.

The Bulldogs could not get a "bead" on the ball and did not score in the sixth inning. The Cougars once again were ready to pounce. Teresa Pond (11) threw to Jacqui Rodriquez (33) ** for the first out. Cougars' second batter gets on base. Although **Madi strikes out the second batter, the third batter makes a hit and the Bulldogs 'gloves weren't grabbing. The Cougars got another run.

There was hope in the air when there was time for the Bulldogs to bat once again, but the Cougars' large fielding paws got the best of our Lady Bulldogs. Kearns wins.

Kearns 6- Judge 3

Junior Varsity Update Kearns vs. Judge

The Junior Varsity game was short, but the Lady Bulldogs showed some grit. Lindsay Larson (1) came home in the second inning making it the first run for the game. In the fourth inning Ashley Azarow (5), the catcher, caught the ball and threw the ball to Allie Brann (12) to get the runner going to third. Allie then quickly threw the ball to Kasi Stults (2) who got the runner out advancing to second. ** Madi Moll (22)** and Lindsay Larsen (1)were on base and a hit from Alison Brann (12) brought in them home for two runs.

Kearns 8- Judge 3

NOTE: The Lady Bulldogs thank Consuelo and Dale Rodriquez for their generous snack of handmade bagel sandwiches, fresh fruit, juices, and water. It warmed the team's tummies on a cold spring afternoon. Thanks to all the parents who braved the cross-town traffic to get to the Kearns field. Your support always is appreciated.

A huge THANK YOU to Tim and Pat Coffey for this great write-up!

St. George Tournament

18th Annual March Warm-up March 14-15, St. George, Ut

The weekend tournament was a great spring training event for the young Lady Bulldog Team. The tournament provided competitors who tested the team.

Friday, March 14 Game 1 - JMCH vs. Grand Judge's bats came alive early as they jumped off to a 2-0 lead. The score held up as Judge kept Grand at bay with excellent defense, especially two put outs on pitch outs. Twice with runners on first and trying to steal second, catcher Ashley Azarow (2) called for a pitch out from pitcher Madi Moll (22) who delivered it perfectly to Ashley who then fired a bullet to Teresa Pond (11)who made the tagged on the runner for the out. Judge held the lead until the bottom of the 5th inning when Grand took the lead 4-2. Judge batted in the sixth inning and the game was called due to a time limit. Grand won 4-2.

Game 2 - JMCH vs. Boulder (under the lights) With Madi Moll (22) pitching, Judge had an early lead of 2-0. Some timely hitting, including extra base hits by Stephanie Avila (13) and Allie Brann (12) brought contributions to the lead. Boulder tied the game in the 5th inning and scored the winning run in the 6th as the time ran out and the game was called Boulder won 3-2.

Saturday, March 15- Game 3 - JMCH vs. Parowan The Judge bats failed them as they ran into a "hot" Parowan pitcher backed up by some great fielding. Madi Moll (22) and the Lady Bulldogs battled back keeping the game close, but Parowan's diving catches stranded JMCH's runners and cut short the Bulldogs' chances to get back in the game. The Lady Bulldogs kept Parowan's win to 3-0.

Game 4 - JMCH vs. Ben Lomen The playoff began with Kassi Romero (17)pitching, giving Madi Moll (22) a well-deserved rest. Kassi pitched a great game with Madi closing the last inning. Judge's bats were singing and stinging with a 13-4 victory. There was outstanding play both in the field and at the bat. The depth of the team showed as 10 individual batters scored at least one run if not more at this game. We hope to ses more from the following players: Teresa Pond(11), Ashley Azarow (5), Madi Moll (22), Allie Brann (12), Jacqui Rodriquez (33), Erika Eisenman (8), Lindsay Larson (1), Rachel Coffey (9), Stephanie Avila (13), and Chase McQuarrie (10). Judge wins 13-4.

Game 5 - JMCH vs. Enterprise This game followed immediately after game 4. Madi (22) was back on the mound for Judge. This was her fourth game in two days. The game quickly turned into a pitchers' duel. In the top of the 3rd inning, two infield hits by Teresa (11) and Ashley (5) followed by a double steal set the stage for Allie (12) to drive in Teresa (11) giving Judge a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the 4th, an inning that vexed the Bulldogs throughout the entire tournament, Enterprise scored three runs. Judge got a run in the 5th inning as once again Allie (12)drove in Teresa (11) giving Enterprise only a one-point lead. However, with JMCH third out, the time limit for the game was called and it was another tough lost for the Lady Bulldogs. Enterprise won 3-2.
