Fall 2011 Judge Girls' Lax Update

an October 2011 note from Coach Schiff

Judge Girls' Lacrosse is excited to announce new head coach Chad Martin! Coach Martin’s lacrosse history is a direct parallel with the game itself in UT from the mid-90’s to the present. Chad’s playing career extends through MVP honors as a goalie with repeat state champion Highland High School, to a collegiate career at the U of UT and CSU in Colorado, and continues to this day with a local men’s team.

Chad’s coaching career, including football at Highland, and ongoing volunteer duties with Boys and Girls Club of Sugar House, is most notable for history and success with women’s lacrosse. As a student, then teacher of lacrosse, Coach Martin has an extensive knowledge of the rules, and deep appreciation for the speed, finesse, and subtleties of the women’s game. Coach Martin implemented and operated neighboring East High School’s program from 2007 through 2010, and was the Utah High School Division 2 Coach of the Year for the 2009 season. Chad has also served on the Utah High School coaches’ council.

Assisting Coach Martin will be offensive specialist and 2009 East High graduate, Robin Lyons. Robin’s career includes a state championship in her freshman campaign, and she twice received All-State accolades as a midfielder and team captain at East. Alan Schiff will be returning to assist with similar duties as the past.

Leading the 2012 Bulldog varsity squad will be captains senior Koko Novak, senior Rachel Benvegnu and junior Payton Schiff.

Judge Girls' Lacrosse reminds our Judge community that lacrosse is not a state-sanctioned sport in UT, remaining a club sport. Our high school league is operated by the Utah Lacrosse Association, a chapter of US Lacrosse. While Judge Girls' Lacrosse is blessed by the support of Judge administration, who go above and beyond most providing facilities, scheduling, and transportation to name just a few, we operate as a club team. Parent involvement is vital to our success and we need the Judge community’s support in every way. Please contact Judge Girls' Lacrosse staff for volunteer opportunities and to forward your player prospects! Watch for announcement of pre-season meeting prior to holidays.

Go Lady Bulldogs!
