The Bulldog girls' lacrosse team took a bite out of Juan Diego's wings and grounded the visiting Soaring Eagle in a 11 to 9 white-knuckle victory in Monday's McCarthey Stadium matchup.
The Utah Division 1 inter-conference encounter with the perennial Judge rival saw the Bulldogs coming out fast and furious on their home turf, burying three before the Eagle could stretch their wings. The Judge women held a multiple-goal advantage until Juan Diego tied it up at nine late in the contest. That would prove to be the end of the updraft for the Soaring Eagle as the Bulldogs closed out the skirmish with two goals and the majority of possession in the final minutes.
Judge scoring highlights included Junior captain Koko Novak coming up just short of a double-hat trick in notching five goals, and sophomore middie Payton Schiff's three net-benders, featuring a winsome one-timer off one of senior attacker Campbell Wyasket's two assiduous assists in the fray. Judge's final tally was rounded out by senior captain Chloe Ropner, attacker Maggie Fey, and freshman middie Liz Lewis all noting a notch on the score sheet. Ropner matched Wyasket's twp assists with Fey and freshman attacker Sarah Hunt each collaborating on a hyper-helper. Eight Bulldogs picked-up grounders with senior captain Sierra Brimhall and sophomore middie Emily Schnopp leading the ladies with five each. The remainder of the dirty work was dealt by Novak (4), Schiff (3), Ropner (2), sophomore defender Hayley Dahlhauser (2), Fey (1) and Wyasket (1). S
even Judge women embezzled equity from the Eagle, led by Novak (4), Brimhall (3), Schnopp (3), junior defender Rachel Benvegnu and Schiff with a deuce, and Wyasket and Ropner each prying an Eagle claw off a Juan Diego dominion. Seven different Bulldogs gained draw-controls led by Novak (3) and Schiff (2). Freshman keeper Hannah Samowitz stonewalled the Juan Diego women throughout with an even 50% save percentage in stopping 9 of 18 Eagle droppings.
The Lady Bulldog's battle with the private schools will conclude at McCarthey Stadium on Thursday 4/28 @ 5:30PM in an inter-conference contest with the Waterford women Ravens.
