Interact Hosts Benefit March 19
Judge Memorial Catholic High School's Interact Club will host its annual benefit dinner on March 19, 2011, in the Judge Memorial Dance Studio. The theme for this year’s event is “Lifting Liberia.”
Over 500,000 children in Liberia are not in school. Of those enrolled in school, 42% of children sit on the floor, without books, desks, or trained teachers. The goal of this year’s Interact Club is to raise funds to assist in the education for the young children of Liberia.
The night begins 6 p.m. and will include a silent auction, entertainment, and cuisine catered by Zane Holmquist, Executive Chef at Stein Erikson Lodge and Restaurants, and a Judge parent.
Tickets for adults are $25.00, and for students and seniors they are $15.00. If you are interested in purchasing tickets for the dinner or making a donation, please contact Dr. Corethia Qualls, cqualls@judgememorial.com, or call 801-350-1564. Students may contact any club officer for ticket information.
In spring 2010, after months of preparation, the Judge Memorial’s Interact Club hosted "Chiwit," a fundraising dinner to benefit a school in northern Thailand, raising a grand total of $14,500. These funds made possible the installation of a water purification system and the rebuilding and refitting of a school library. Dr. Han Kim, the Westminster professor and supervisor of the project in Thailand has named the remodeled library wing of the Ban Nom Hom school in northern Thailand the “Judge Interact Library” in gratitude. Under Dr. Han’s direction, students in health services work for a better standard of life for the many refugees that are living in poverty, helping them to gain an education, and leave them with reliable access to clean drinking water.
Interact is Rotary International's service club for young people ages 14 to 18. Interact clubs are sponsored by individual Rotary clubs, which provide support and guidance, but they are self-governing and self-supporting. As one of the most significant and fastest-growing programs of Rotary service, with more than 10,700 clubs in 109 countries and geographical areas, Interact has become a worldwide phenomenon. Almost 200,000 young people are involved in Interact.
