Judge Interact prepares for new school year

The Judge Memorial Interact Club is preparing for another strong year in the hope to continue its commitment to humanitarian aid, in conducting service projects both on the local and international scale.

Last Spring, after months of preparation, the club put on "Chiwit," a fundraising dinner, which raised a grand total of $14,500. These funds made possible the installation of a water purification system and the rebuilding and refitting of a school library. Dr. Han Kim, the Westminster professor and supervisor of the project in Thailand has named the remodeled library wing of the Ban Nom Hom school in Northern Thailand the “Judge Interact Library” in gratitude. Certainly no other Interact Club in Utah, and perhaps none in the US, has established such an international mark.

Under Dr. Han’s direction, students in health services work for a better standard of life for the many refugees that are living in poverty, helping them to gain an education, and leave them with reliable access to clean drinking water.

The club will continue to place service above self in assisting communities around the world.

Interact is Rotary International’s service club for young people ages 14 to 18. Interact clubs are sponsored by individual Rotary clubs, which provide support and guidance, but they are self-governing and self-supporting.

The 2010-2011 Club will be led by president Marissa Fuller, vice president Lexy Wright, secretary Sarina Karwande, and treasurer Chris Turner. Dr, Corethia Qualls and Ms. Amee Garcia will serve as moderators. Any questions you have about joining Interact this year should be directed to any of these individual.
