Interact Club Raises Funds for Ban Nam Hom

The Rotary Interact Club of Judge Memorial Catholic High School would like to thank all those who made our international project possible.

We were able to raise nearly $15,000 for the refugees of Ban Nam Hom in Northern Thailand. Special thanks to Dr. Han Kim and his students of Westminster College for taking the money raised directly to the refugees this coming May. The money will be used for a water filtration system and other much needed renovations.

The "Chiwit" Benefit and Auction held on March 20, 2010, was a huge success, and it could not have been done without the help of students, teachers, staff, and parents of Judge Memorial. Thanks to all the officers of Interact: Maria Rechsteiner (President), Lexy Wright (Vice President), Jeannie Palmer (Secretary), and Jonathan Nolan (Treasurer). These people were the core of our project and got it up and running from the summer of 2009. Thanks also to all the chairpersons of the benefit and auction: Emily Strand (Auction Coordinator), Laura Watson and Sarah Nakamura (Public Relations), Katie Hoskins (Food Coordinator), and Jenny Gardner (Decorations Coordinator). Thanks to Jeff Scott and Company for tackling the grueling task of clean-up crew, all the students who came and gave up their Saturday for service hours, and to all the attendees who helped clean up the tables after the event. Special thanks to Our Lady of Lourdes Parish for letting us borrow their kitchen, plates, silverware, etc.

Lastly, thank you to our donors and benefactors. Your donations are greatly appreciated by us and the refugees. We could not have done it without our Rotary International liaisons, Sharon and Joe Butler. And a big shout out to our moderators, Mrs. Kathy Scott and Dr. Corethia Qualls. Without your help and perseverance it would not have been such a success.
