2010 Boys' Golf Season in Review

The boys' golf team had another great season winning six out of seven region tournaments and taking the Region XI Title. Chris Turner had the lowest scoring average on the team with a 73.6.

“We had a strong team this year,” according to Mike Brimley, head golf coach. “Five of our varsity team members were made up of juniors who played well and continue to improve each year."

Those juniors include Chris Turner, who won the 3A Championship as an individual in 2009, Charlie Murphy, who’s scoring average was 76, Hunter Cornelison, Justin Brimley and Wilson Lamb. Freshman Jacob Turner also had a great year and played on the varsity squad all season.

Seventeen players were on the team this year and many of them shot their personal bests. Coach Mike and his wife and assistant coach Patty, were amazed at the improvement of the entire team and were excited to offer a developmental team this year.

“We didn’t want to turn anyone away," said Coach Mike. "Golf is a great lifetime sport and if you can learn to play at this age, you can play the game forever.”

At the State Tournament, which was held at Sunbrook Golf Course in St. George, the Bulldogs were in first place after the first day in a two day event. We ended up placing 3rd out of 17 teams, missing second place by only four strokes.

Senior Davis Kinney had an excellent State Tournament shooting a 73 -76 and placing sixth overall. Charlie Murphy also had a great tournament shooting 74 – 77 placing him 10th.

It’s been a great year and we look forward to 2011.
