The Judge Outdoor Recreation Club (JROC) promotes healthy and safe outdoor activities while giving students a chance to socialize with other students who share common interests.
JROC gives students a chance to develop new friendships, learn safety in outdoor/recreational sports, fine-tune their skills, and have fun. JROC has a nominal membership fee of $10 (if paid for by check, make payable to JMCHS).
The JROC winter season includes Wednesday Night Ski trips to Brighton Resort, weather permitting, i.e., which means that the bus can safely go up and back.
JROC-goers should prepare the following: - Students should bring their own equipment to the storage room (across from the old Dean's office), so it may be safely locked up and tucked away during the school day. - After school, students collect their gear, meet in the Caféteria, complete paper work, turn in payment, then board the bus at 3:15pm. The bus departs for Brighton Ski Resort promptly at 3:20pm. At about 4:00pm, the students arrive, receive their resort tickets, and may begin skiing or riding at that time. - Students return to the bus by 7:50 pm, and return to Judge between 8:45 and 9:00 pm. - A $5 late fee is assessed to those students who are late in arriving to the bus for the departure home.
Each Wednesday ski trip is $20 (this is a discounted Brighton rate). For those JROC-ers who already have a Brighton season pass purchased, all they pay is the bus fee of $5.
Also, if it is more convenient, students may be dropped off at the bottom of Big Cottonwood Canyon (about 8:20-8:30pm). You must meet your child in person at the bottom of the canyon (near the UTA buss stop). This is the only stop that will be made between Brighton and Judge. Students are also on their own for food and beverages. It is suggested that students bring a snack dinner or purchase from the Brighton kitchen which is open all night.
Be aware all Judge Memorial Catholic High School rules and regulations apply and that there are safety issues involved in these trips, and we enforce specific rules, for which JROC members are required to agree with. These include, but are not limited to, skiing or boarding safely, in pairs or groups, proper conduct on the bus, and maintaining personal and group safety at all times. Your signed Parent Release Form is your consent to and acknowledgment of the rules and regulations.
Parents should be aware that due to the nature of the club activity, students are responsible for their own behavior. In the event of a medical emergency, your signed permission slip will be used to contact you by a Brighton medical professional. Additional action may be required, including picking up your child in person at the Brighton resort. Judge Memorial Catholic High School assumes no financial obligation for medical attention.
