A group of students, grades 9-12, dedicated to saving the environment by recycling and preserving the earth through educational programs. Read more at the Environmental Club's website.

Goals

To develop an environmental awareness at Judge Memorial Catholic High School and its community through education, activities as well as hands on projects and field trips.

Objectives

  • To integrate available information, tools and resources to help individuals live in a cleaner, healthier environment.
  • To learn to protect our environment and natural resources.
  • To distinguish between biodegradable and non-biodegradable materials.
  • Discuss the impact of pollution on the earth's environment and to learn how we as a school can reduce that impact.
  • To encourage individuals at Judge to take steps towards an environmentally friendly lifestyle.

Informational Mtg on Wed and Thursday

There will be informational meetings on Wednesday at 3 p.m. or Thursday at 7:40 a.m. for all interested in joining Judge's Environmental Club in Mr Hill's Room (Rm 224).

Students interested in getting involved should see Mr. Hill, Emily Strand or Shiona Smith this week. Hope to see you at one of the meetings!

Earth Week 2011 begins April 18

Next week is Earth Week and to celebrate, the Judge Memorial Environmental Club will host a few competitions.

Monday is Lunchbox Monday - students can bring in their old or current lunchbox to enter a contest.

All next week there will be a collection of old batteries; the student who brings the most batteries to Mr. Hill's room will win a prize.

JMEC Mtgs this Week!

ENVIRONMENTAL CLUB: There will be an ENV Club Meeting Thursday at 3 p.m. and Friday at 7:30 a.m. If you want to be part of the most amazing club at JM, you must make it to one of the two meetings scheduled. Meetings are in Room 226, and be on time!

Earth Week '10 - Five Simple Tips

Here are 5 simple environmental tips everybody can do, with no or very little additional cost.

  1. Reuse, Reduce, and Recycle!

  2. Switch to Energy Efficient light bulbs.

  3. Adjust thermostat according to season (68 in winter/78 in summer).

  4. Cut down on shower time/Switch to low flow shower heads and faucets.

  5. Turn off lights and electronic items when not in use.

Earth Week ’10 – One Student’s Efforts to Help the Environment

Grace Best-Devereux, daughter of Igor Best-Devereux and Cynthia Conner of Salt Lake City, a sophomore at Judge Memorial Catholic High School, spent a portion of her spring break doing her part to help the environment.

Grace and her family were on an annual trip to visit Grace’s grandfather who lives in Hobe Sound, Florida. One day, Grace, along with her mom and younger brother, Jim, took a ferry over to the Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge and spent five hours picking up trash. Read more »
