World Languages Department
Essential knowledge and Skills:
Students in French III Honors further develop their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in French. Students study the French language with a strong emphasis on communication. Students are encouraged to participate in the learning process through presentations, group work and interaction.
Indicators of Student learning:
Upon completion of this course, students will:
• Feel confident speaking in target language about themselves and others.
• Feel confident reading a short passage in French
• Utilize cognates and scan for main information when encountering a new text or listening to a new passage.
• Use present, past, future and conditional verb tenses.
• Be familiar with French contemporary events and personalities
• Start having the ‘feel” for the language
• Be confident in a French-speaking environment.
Communication
• Communicate their thoughts in target language
• Explain major points of grammar in target language
• Give information about key figures in French speaking world in target language
• Recite longer poems in French
• Recognize some music from French speaking world
Technology
• Continue using Internet to research specific topics
• Navigate French search engines
• Find weather in any area in French speaking world
• Recognize headlines in French speaking papers on line
Assessment:
Upon completion of this course, students will:
• Participate in the National French Contest
• Evaluate their own performance by comparison to their performance on the previous year’s contest.
• Evaluate their own performance by comparison to the performance of students in the state of Utah, as well as nationally.
• Be confident in a French-speaking environment.
• Communicate with a native speaker and classmate in target language.
• Exchange emails with French speaking correspondent.
