Essential Knowledge and Skills
Varsity Weight Lifting is designed for the Varsity Male athlete. Varsity Weight Lifting students receive in-depth training and instruction in weight lifting. It is not designed for a specific sport but rather for all sports combined. Every sport requires explosion. The program was developed with the high school athlete in mind. Our first objective is to not create injuries in the weight room, our second is to build strength and develop athleticism.
Indicators of Student Learning
Upon the completion of this course student will:
• Students will demonstrate an understanding of weight training.
• Students will recognize, develop and practice performance related lifts and exercises that are related to the athletes specific movements.
• Display qualities for sound technique in fundamental motor skill patterns through a variety of physical activity.
• Evaluate and select ways to improve health through proper nutrition and exercise.
• Recognize how physical activities impact a person's physical, emotional, social, and intellectual well-being.
• Recognize that physical activities offer a positive environment to meet and interact with people of varying interests
Assessment
Upon the completion of this course, students will:
• Chart their progress of fitness and strength gains, as well as self-assessment and a goal-setting component at the end of each semester.
• Develop own weight training and cardiovascular fitness programs by the end of the semester.
• Write a summary of the work done based on evaluation of strength and conditioning.
