Essential Knowledge and Skills

Women's Fitness and Wellness students will follow guidelines which enables them to design an individual as well as group program to improve their physical fitness and nutrition by incorporating strength training, cardio training, plyometrics, speed conditioning along with fitness and agility, as well as creating a knowledge base for good choices.

Indicators of Student Learning

Upon the completion of this course, students will:

Fitness Levels, Health choices: Mental and Physical

• Display Catholic Christian values such as leadership, fairness, courtesy, respect, cooperation, and social skills.

• Recognize, develop and practice life skills that are associated with improved personal health and quality of life.

• Display qualities of sound technique in fundamental motor skill patterns through a variety of physical activity.

• Recognize and develop wise choices about diet and exercise.

• Understand team sports, lifetime sports and personal fitness.

• Display good sportsmanship

• Exhibit responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others in physical activity settings.

• Value physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and/or social interaction.

• Develop healthy choices in the area of nutrition, tobacco, alcohol and drugs.

Assessment

Upon the completion of this course, students will:

• Create a written summary of the work done throughout the course.

• Chart their progress of fitness and strength gains, as well as self-assessment and a goal-setting component at the end of each semester.

• Demonstrate for one’s self and others by charting personal improvement as well as coaching and encouraging peers.

• Develop own weight training and cardiovascular fitness programs by the end of the semester.

• Individual pre and post testing based on skill and knowledge
