JMCHS Students to Compete in English Quest

For the fourth year in a row, Judge Memorial Catholic High School will send a team to Utah English Quest.

This high school statewide competition in English/Language Arts is sponsored by the Utah Council of Teachers of English. The 2009 event will be held Friday, February 27 at Weber State University.

Last year fourteen schools competed in the nineteen categories. Judge won prizes in Poetry Slam, Poetry Writing, Poetry Recitation, Book Cover, Informative Speaking, Reader’s Theater and Persuasive Essay.Read more »

Honors Test for Incoming Ninth graders

QUALIFYING TESTS FOR FRESHMAN HONORS COURSES

The tests will be held Saturday, April 18, and on Monday, April 20, 2009. You may take all three tests on one day, if you choose. Each test has a $5.00 processing fee payable to the teacher on the day of the test. You need not sign up for the tests in advance. Just show up on time with the test fee(s) and a couple of sharpened pencils.Read more »

57 Judge Students' Letters on National Web Site

Earlier in October we told you about Judge Memorial sophomore, Matt Kirkegaard, who wrote a letter to the next president of the United States. Matt's letter, about a renewable green economy, was prominently featured on the home page of Letters to the Next President: Writing Our Future. His letter is part of a nation-wide student project written by kids relating to the issues that matter most to us. Shortly after Matt's article was posted, junior Eric Humphrey wrote on the issue of dependence on foreign oil.Read more »

President-elect Barack Obama hasn't moved into the White House yet, and already he has mail waiting for him.

A Family is United for Thanksgiving

Special Update: With deep gratitude for the kindness and generosity of a local travel agent, two Judge Memorial families, and a Judge staff member, funds have been secured for this family to have an early Thanksgiving holiday together. There are indeed angels among us! (November 6, 2008)

Judge Memorial Student Featured in PBS Election Project

Under the direction of faculty member Chris Sloan, a number of Judge Memorial students participated in the PBS News Hour/YouTube "Video Your Vote" project in conjunction with the 2008 Presidential Election. Senior Jack Lund's video is featured on the PBS Web site.

Simpson's Work Published

Judge Memorial English teacher Linda Simpson is legendary for many things, among them her love for teaching, and, of course, for her delicious homemade chocolate chip cookies.

Now the longtime faculty member has another accolade to add to her impressive resume: a published article in the Utah English Journal. Ms. Simpson's article, "The Grandparent Story: A Christmas Surprise," appears in the current edition of the journal.

As her colleague Chris Sloan described it, "this article demonstrates exactly why she's a great teacher."
