1322/1323 Inquiring Minds

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

Students in Inquiring Minds study a variety of works of fiction. Selection of texts is based on college suggestion reading lists and Great Books courses throughout the country. Students will also have the opportunity to help select texts. Students will read, annotate, research and lead discussions on the works.

Indicators of Student Learning

Upon completion of the course students will:

• Critically read, annotate and analyze fiction

• Critically evaluate and compare works

• Interpret figurative language and diction and its impact within the texts

• Use various close-reading techniques

• Engage in discussions about both the genre, historical background and the relationship to contemporary issues portrayed in the texts

Assessments of Student Learning

• Assessments may include, but are not limited to, discussion, notes, quizzes, written work, and projects.
