College Counseling

The decision about what to do with life after high school may be one of the most important decisions a young adult will make. All students, regardless of test scores or grades, have colleges from which to choose. There are over 3,000 colleges and universities in the U.S. alone. Students simply need to seize the opportunity and realize that choices do exist.

The college process does not have to be stressful. While some students and their parents are anxious about selecting a college, much of that stress comes from false assumptions about the nature of college admission. Once students and their families replace the quest for “the best college” with one focusing on “the best fit,” the level of tension can be reduced significantly.

Finding a college builds important lifelong skills in initiative, decision-making and responsibility. It may be the first real test of using values, personal preferences, and feelings to make a real-life choice. By making difficult decisions during the college choice process and accepting the consequences of their decisions, students will also gain a great deal of self-understanding. Our goal in the Judge Memorial college counseling program is to aid students in building decision-making skills, to provide resources that can help them research, and to guide them as they make their own decisions.
