Essential Knowledge and Skills

Students in Technical Productions II will be provided opportunities to learn and understand technical aspects of the theatre and introduce them to the “backstage” of theatre. Emphasis will be on how to use certain construction equipment as well as theatre equipment, including lights and sound. Students will build and paint scenery, work on lights and sound for productions and assemblies and learn how to stage-manage a production as well as learn to design their own projects.

Indicators of Student Learning

Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

• Construct and paint a set.

• Operate lighting equipment.

• Operate sound equipment.

• Understand the role of a stage manager.

• Create a lighting and/or set design for a production.

• Understand basic theatre vocabulary.

Assessment

The following assessments will determine successful completion of this course

• Daily class work/participation

• Written Tests, quizzes

• Individual skills progress

• On working first-hand light-board, soundboard, projectors

• How well they work with others

• Assignments

• Designing the technical aspects of productions

• Written critiques of performances seen and plays read

• Assembly/musical/play crewing

• Outside of class time spent on projects such as masses, assemblies, meetings, the musical, dance concert, music concerts, etc.
