Essential Knowledge and Skills:
Students in Drama I are provided an opportunity to recognize and develop acting skills. Students will understand performance, historical, technical elements, and styles of theater. Emphasis is placed on individual and ensemble performance. Students will begin to develop individual technique.
Indicators of Student Learning Upon successful completion of this course students will: • Begin to develop elements of acting. • Begin to develop ensemble acting skills and ensemble performance activities. • Be able to use improvisation techniques. • Begin to develop vocal techniques. • Understand the importance of movement in acting and performance. • Understand and distinguish different theatre periods. • Begin to form critical evaluations about performances as a participant and an observer. • Demonstrate a concept of responsible participation.
Assessment The following assessments will determine successful completion of this course: • Daily class work/participation • Assignments • Individual skills progress based on movement, voice, creativity, memorization. • Performance: Improvisation, Pantomime, Monologues, and Scenes, One-act-plays. • Ensemble projects • Written critiques of plays seen and read
