Essential Knowledge and Skills

This course emphasizes good technique, intonation, tone quality, articulation, learning of band literature, reading and listening skills, rhythmic accuracy, proper band performance etiquette and musical artistry in a small ensemble setting for wind and percussion instruments.

Indicators of Student Learning Upon completion of this course, students will:

• Have developed good performance habits

• Play with good intonation

• Play with rhythmic accuracy

• Play the full range of their instrument

• Know how to play all major and minor scales, as well modes and chromatics.

• Be able to sight read music and greater ease

• Have a better knowledge of band literature

Assessment

The following will determine successful completion of this course:

• Performance in at least 2 major concerts

• Performance in a solo/ensemble festival or chamber recital

• Passing grades for playing exams

• Concert attendance reports, listening and practice logs
