Essential Knowledge and Skills

Art Foundations students will be introduced to elementary and advanced drawing skills that involve line, shape, color, perspective, negative and positive space, use of pencils (graphite/colored) and ink pens. Assignments will involve the student in an aesthetic language. Film will be used at times to effectively communicate assignments. Demonstrations by the teacher will also give the student an understanding of the direction of the assignment.

Indicators of student learning
• Completed student work fulfilling the assignment.
• A mastering of drawing skills and techniques through four quarters.
• Effective visual communication through their drawings.
• A grouping of finished work at the end of the quarter demonstrating their growth in a visual manner.

Technology
• The use of books, film and the Internet for research and idea formation.

Assessment
• At the end of the year the student will have a portfolio of work demonstrating their skills.

• At the end of every quarter students should evaluate their own progress and ask for help to further their skill levels.
