Essential Knowledge and Skills

Students in Drama Production I will be provided opportunities to utilize acting skills in performances for the career-oriented performer. An advanced class in theatre arts, emphasis is placed on performances designed and produced by the students.

Indicators of Student Learning

Upon the completion of this course students will:

• Practice and further develop elements of acting by producing plays to be performed in front of audiences.

• Design costumes, sets, sound, publicity, etc.

• Practice and further develop ensemble acting skills and ensemble performance.

• Use performance techniques appropriate to varied settings.

• Apply varied vocal production techniques to individual characterizations.

• Use movement to identify a characterization.

• Relate historical styles of acting to current theories and practices.

• Develop and demonstrate varied auditioning skills.

• Formulate critical evaluations about performances as a participant and an observer.

• Demonstrate a concept of responsible participation.

Assessment

The following assessments will determine successful completion of this course:

• Daily class work/participation

• Written tests, quizzes

• Individual skills progress: based on movement, voice, creativity, memorization

• Performance

• Improvisation, Pantomime, Monologues, Scenes, One-act plays, Classical scenes, auditioning, region and state drama festivals, directing.

• Ensemble projects

• Assignments

• Playwriting

• Written critiques of plays seen and read.

• Producing a student driven play and/or on-act.
