Essential Knowledge and Skills
Students in Virtuosic Movement for Men will learn a broad overview of dance as an art form. Students will familiarize themselves with practices, philosophies, terminologies, styles of dance, and careers in dance. Class includes the art of dance and music composition.
Indicators of Student Learning
Upon completion of this course students will:
• Introduce the history and cultural significance of the dance art form covered.
• Increase student’s strength, flexibility, and endurance.
• Enhance student’s appreciations for dance.
• Gain experience performing in class and Dance Concert.
• Learn basic technique and styles.
• Discover the joy of movement and expression.

Communication
• Men interested in exploring the roots and rhythms of different dance forms that have influenced the American culture. The forms of dance we will cover are the following: Steppin/footwork, virtuosity in modern, partner work/lifting, dance composition and improvisation. This is a high-energy class, which will include warm-up sequences, movement progressions, and movement phrases that build from class to class. Through active and consistent participation, students will enhance their movement skills, increase strength and endurance, increase range of motion in movement and flexibility, as well as develop a greater sense of confidence and well- being. While students are learning and developing skills we will continually dialogue using dance terminology to enhance vocabulary as well as visual and kinesthetic awareness.
Technology
• Students will learn to use garage band for music composition
• Students will work with cameras and learn the important of dance preservation
• Students will also work on computers to further inform them of other dance forms. Students will be asked to watch video clips directly related to what is being learned in class.
Assessment
Upon completion of this course students will:
• Take a written test
• Film assignments and watch video for self-assessment
